CAAM MASTER ARTIST WORKSHOP ~ SUPPLY LISTS

These lists are provided here to give a general idea of necessary supplies. A workshop-specific supply list created by the instructor will be included in each packet to the students.

General Supply List Recommended for Oil Painting Workshops

· Portable easel ~ French, Russian, half easel, pochade box, etc. - be sure it is lightweight and sturdy.
· Palette ~ Please do not bring a paper palette, the white of the paper makes your mixes difficult to see.
· Container ~ for washing brushes (Silicoil jar, Holbein brush cleaner).
· Turpenoid, paint thinner, or odorless mineral spirits.
· Paper towels ~ Viva! is recommended.
· Brushes ~ Selection of hog bristle Flats (long and square), Filbert (long and rounded corners, and Brights (short and square). Sizes from 4 - 10; a single #2 will suffice for sketching in the painting.
· Palette knife
· Small trash bags
· Surfaces ~ Canvas boards, masonite panels (gessoed), or stretched canvas (with cardboard stapled to the back to prevent sunlight from shining through); 8" x 10", 9" x 12" and 12" x 16" recommended. If you like, you may bring a few larger boards (such as 16" x 20").
· Oil paints ~ Suggested Colors (Windsor Newton)
          · Cadmium Yellow Light
          · Cadmium Lemon
          · Cadmium Orange
          · Cadmium Red
          · Venetian Red (Terra Rosa is fine as well)
          · Permanent Rose (Windsor Newton)
          · Alizarin Crimson
          · Yellow Ochre
          · Viridian, (Sap Green sometimes)
          · Cobalt Blue, (Cerulean Blue occasionally)
          · Ultramarine Blue
          · Ivory Black
          · Titanium White

· Sketch book and pencil (for preliminary thumbnail sketches and notes)
· Hat
· Neutral colored shirts (optional but recommended)
· Umbrella (optional but highly recommended)
· Camera (optional)
· Wet box (optional)
· Bug repellant
· Sunscreen,
sturdy shoes or boots, long pants, jacket or raincoat depending on weather conditions.
· Water and lunch! (You may also wish to bring energy bars.)



General Supply List Recommended for Sculpting Workshops

· Sculpting table
· Sculpting tools
· Working surface
~ Masonite, formica or something sturdy.

The instructor may provide clay and wire, as well as some extra tools for those who need them. (There will be a nominal charge for the clay and wire, approximately $20 - $30 per person.)



General Supply List Recommended for Pastel Workshops

· Pastels
· Pastel Paper
~ Something with "tooth" to it and preferably more substantial than Canson paper. Papers for location painting should already be toned. Recommended are Art Spectrum, La Carte and Sabertooth. (You can also tone "toothy" white papers with watercolor, acrylic, gouache, even pastel brushed with Turpenoid. Just be sure before applying that paper will accept the liquid without buckling or losing the toothy surface.)
· Portable easel
· Drawing board(s) to fit the size of the paper you're working on.
· Rubbing alcohol (at least 90%) and a small jar to carry some in.
· An old paintbrush ~ flat, maybe ½" - ¾"
· Hat with a broad brim
· Sunscreen
· Drinking water
· Sketch pad or book
plus graphite pencil.
· Pastel pencil
~ to sketch your scene out with.
· An old toothbrush or bristle brush
~ to erase with.
· Glassine, tissue paper
or butcher paper to cover pastels for transport.
